What is a USB flash drive used for?

The purpose of a flash drive is to store files. A USB flash drive can be used in place of a CD or DVD. But please keep in mind that USB flash drives are different from CDs and DVDs. Unlike CDs & DVDs, there is no standard for how files are stored on a USB flash drive. The way a machine accesses the files on a flash drive will not be consistent.
